Individual Education Plan:
A signed copy of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for your child for the 2023-2024 school year at John McCrae Secondary School was sent home digitally on Tuesday October 17th. We would encourage you to review it with them.

Please sign IEP digitally. You may notice some changes in the format. The content continues to align with guidelines and standards required by the Ministry of Education of Ontario.

The IEP continues to be developed based on your child’s strengths and needs and highlights the educational programming required to target specific goals. The IEP is a working document which can be changed at any time, based on documentation provided and student needs. If you have any comments or suggestions, please include them when completing the parent consultation.

Resource Room: 220A (Now located in Student Services!)
Our Resource Room (220A) is open daily from 8:30am to 4:00 pm, and all students are welcome to use this work space before school, at lunch, or after school. This is also the location where students can take the Learning Strategies class, sign out a chromebook, or speak to a special education department staff member about other supports. The staff are welcoming and willing to find the answer/solution to any problems that a student may encounter.

The room offers a quiet place to study, additional resources for help with course content, computer access for course work, a place for finishing tests, exams, or projects (when additional time is granted), and for homework assistance.

Each semester, Learning Strategies classes are held in the resource room during each period of the day. Learning Strategies is offered at every grade level (GLE1O, 2O, 3O, and 4O). These courses focus on teaching lifelong skills that are needed to ensure success in school and in daily life.

Learning Strategies 1:
Skills for Success in Secondary School (GLE1O/GLE2O)
Grade 9 and 10, Open

This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.

Advanced Learning Strategies:
Skills for Success After Secondary School (GLE3O/GLE4O)
Grade 11 and 12, Open
This course improves students’ learning and personal-management skills, preparing them to make successful transitions to work, training, and/or post secondary education destinations. Students will assess their learning abilities and use literacy, numeracy, and research skills and personal-management techniques to maximize their learning. Students will investigate trends and resources to support their post secondary employment, training, and/or education choices and develop a plan to help them meet their learning and career goals.
