Grade 9 Students - Take Our Kids to Work Day 2023

Take Our Kids to Work™ is a national program that has existed since 1994, providing students the opportunity to shadow a parent or family friend in their place of work for a day.

On November 1st, 2023, hundreds of thousands of grade nine students and 75,000 workplaces across Canada including hundreds in the Ottawa region are expected to take part in Take Our Kids to Work™ day. Students may attend their parent/guardian or other designated workplace.

Grade 9 John McCrae Secondary students will be receiving 2 permission forms on Tuesday October 17th from the homeroom teacher. Students will be required to complete the forms and return them by Friday October 27 in order to participate. Students who do not return the form by Friday October 27 will be attending school as usual on November 1st.

Please see this video on  Take Our Kids To Work day for more information.

Grades 10-12 Students - Launch 2023!

The OCDSB, the Ottawa Catholic School Board, and the Peel District School Board will be proudly hosting Launch 2023, on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. This is the fourth annual post-secondary pathway exploration virtual conference! This year, we will be hosting students from school boards across Ontario and expect to have no fewer than 30,000 participants.

This virtual post-secondary exploration opportunity will showcase a variety of post-secondary pathways and options available to students. The conference will feature workshops and exhibitors from colleges, universities, training delivery agents, employers, gap-year programs, and service providers to help introduce students to the world of possibilities beyond high school. The tentative Launch 2023 program continues to be updated daily as more presenters and exhibitors are added.

How can students participate?

  • Students can register for the event by clicking on the Register Now button on the Launch 2023 landing page
  • You will be asked to use your school email address when registering and to follow the prompts provided.
  • You will not be able to login until the day of the event (November 1st).

Recognizing both physical space and technological constraints, there are options for students to participation:

  • Students may (with parent permission) engage at home to reduce the network traffic in schools;

  • Full class participation in one session within the classroom space;

  • Groups (small in number, e.g. 3-4) on one device;

  • Individual choice with Chromebook or personal device in a supervised area at school.

Grade 10-12 John McCrae Secondary students will be receiving a permission form on Tuesday October 17th from the homeroom teacher. Students will be required to complete the form and return by Friday October 27th in order to participate in this event from home. Students who do not return the form by Friday October 27th will be attending school as usual on November 1st.
