Missed Test Room

Q: What is Missed Test Room?
A: MTR is an opportunity for students to write tests outside of class time when they missed the original test date.

Q: How often does it run?
A: Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Q: What time?
A: It runs from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.--the length of a regular class.

Q: What is the rationale for the Missed Test Room?
A: There will be times when students may have to miss a test because of illness, appointment or for other reasons. However, having to arrange supplemental opportunities to write the test can be a burden on both the teacher and the student because those tests are often rescheduled during subsequent class times. That can also be stressful for the conscientious student who legitimately missed a test and now must miss another class to complete the test.

Q: Who supervises it?
A: JMSS teachers and administrators volunteer their time to do so.

Q: Is this program run anywhere else?
A: This program is not unique to JMSS. To name but a few, staff at Ridgemont and Woodroffe have been using this program for years with great success.

Q: How does the program work?

  • When a student who has missed a test returns to class, a conversation ensues between that student and the teacher to determine on which morning of the week (of the available Missed Test Room days) the student will do the missed test.
  • If a student has a scheduled class that conflicts with the Missed Test Room (ex: Concert Band on Friday mornings), the teacher will arrange for the student to write the test on a date that does not conflict with the scheduled credit course.
  • The teacher’s duty then is to ensure a test for that student is placed in an envelope with the teacher’s name and additional instructions (calculator, dictionary, Scantron, etc.) on the cover and placed in the appropriate receptacle in the math office. Ideally, the teacher’s name would be on the test also to ensure they are returned to the correct teacher.
  • On that predetermined day, the student will report to room 346 (the Missed Test Room) at 7:30 a.m. (or anytime thereafter) to write their missed test.
  • The student will have until 8:45 a.m. to complete the test.
  • If the student finishes prior to 8:45 a.m., they may leave.
  • If the student fails to attend, they will receive a “zero” for that test.
  • The Missed Test Room will be supervised by members of staff on a voluntary basis including admin.
  • Once all tests are complete, the supervisor will return the tests to the receptacle in the math office.
