ConcussionProtocol and Information

ConcussionProtocol Our school is currently following the new 6 step concussion protocol released from the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA). OPHEA released new guidelines (May 2013) in concussion management in order to properly support our students while recovering from concussions. At JMSS we will carefully monitor our students during this healing process to allow our students to return in a safe and supported manner. In order to do this effectively support from the concussed student, his/her parents or guardians, the school staff and volunteers who work with the student and the medical doctor are all essential.

If you suspect that your child has suffered a concussion refer to the following steps:

  1. Download the forms from the links below (C2, C3, C4, C5, C6)
  2. Visit a medical doctor to have the concussion assessed.
  3. If a concussion is diagnosed, contact the main office and your son/daughter's Physical Education teacher and coach.
  4. Follow the protocol outlined in C-4 Return to Learn/ Return to Physical Activity.
  5. Keep the school updated.
